It is always difficult to predict the height at which a foal will mature. We endeavour to offer accurate advice based on the previous history of our mares many of which are homebred.
Update and Thanks!
We have been amazed by the number visitors to this site in the short while since it has been uploaded to the web.
These foals have all now left our small farm on the edge of the New Forest. We shall very much look forward to hearing of their progress over the coming years.
.........................
Tory's filly "Tahoma" is destined to become a broodmare. We have high hopes that she will produce quality coloured ridden show prospects. She and Bluebell Too's colt "Arizona" have settled in nicely at their new home in Bolton, Lancashire. We are very pleased to now have a presence in this part of the country.
Tahoma has already enjoyed her first outing in the show ring. We understand she was happily tied up, bathed and trimmed. She went on to behave very nicely in a youngstock class, turn a few heads and win her first rosette. Well done Lesley!!!
Arizona will enjoy a future as a riding horse and do a little dressage. He is said to love the attention of his owner Heidi's children. We are told "how many six month old foals do you know that will just stand there not tied up whilst a whole herd of kids are attacking him from all angles with dandy brushes and curry combs .... he even lets them pick his feet out!"
Whilst we have only recently become acquainted with Lesley and Heidi it is evident that they have drawn on thier experience of bringing on young horses and stuck to a routine with Tahoma and Arizona. They have worked with the foals from delivery and kept up the momentum of daily post weaning handling which the animals received on the farm.
.........................
Kikuyu's and Kisumu's fillies also live together, a little closer to home in Wiltshire. It is most likely that they will be brought on as ride/drive cobs.
.........................
Mabel's super placid filly "Velvet" is settling in at her new home in the New Forest. She is a best friend and will eventually be a confidence giver for a novice rider.
.........................
Bess's colt "Oliver" has made his way to Portsmouth, Hampshire. We left the halter breaking to his new owner and understand that Oliver is well settled and now walks around quietly on the lead. We very much hope that one day he will make a show cob.
.........................
Bonnie's colt "Barnaby" is now in Gosport - only a stone's throw from Oliver. Barnaby will eventually be broken to ride and may do a little cross country. He has already become accustomed to going out for walks in hand, standing quietly whilst tied up and having the occasional rug fitting - all very useful lessons we think for a youngster to experience at an early age!
A good omen perhaps is that both Oliver and Barnaby will be yarded within 15 miles of "Flash Harry", King's Jester" and "Kumari" - if the Portsmouth air suits the two youngsters as well as these three favourites we shall happily look forward to a few days out at the shows next season!
.........................
Tinkerbell's colt "Sky" has settled in at his new home in Essex.
