Avoncroft Donkeys

Registrations

All of my donkeys are registered with The Donkey Breed Society and micro chipped for security. The registration papers comply with recently introduced equine passport legislation.

Stud Book

Any donkey is eligible for registration in the DBS General Register.

I decided to go one step further and have fourteen donkeys inspected (for freedom from hereditary defects) by a Donkey Breed Society appointed vet. Twelve donkeys passed. These are now upgraded to Stud Book status.

The progeny of these animals will achieve Stud Book status (subject to passing inspection themselves) if both their sire and dam are entered in the Stud Book. If one parent is entered in the Stud Book it's progeny can (subject to inspection) move through the Upgrading Register to Stud Book status over three generations.

"Avoncroft Bluebell", shown above, is the progeny of a Stud Book registered sire and dam.

Paperwork in general

It is satisfying to have a nucleus of Stud Book status donkeys. This said I shall continue to breed from Stud Book, Upgrading and General Register animals. Paying regard to how each of my donkeys may improve and/or add to the herd is more important to me than fancy paperwork.
